Frances H. Mikuriya

I am the Founder and Director of Frances M Fitness and the former Body Machine Performance Studio.

I love working with my clients and helping them achieve their fitness goals. In my training sessions, I emphasise the importance of correct form and proper technique. I believe that if you move better, you feel better.

I received my PhD in Architecture from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, where I also taught for 8 years in History and Theory and Design Studio. My PhD dissertation was nominated for the RIBA President’s Awards for Research in 2012.

I completed an MSc in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University New York and a second MSc in Adaptive Architecture and Computation from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. I studied for a Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Texas at Austin.

Before coming to the UK, I taught at exclusive fitness clubs such as the Sports Club/LA in San Francisco and Equinox Fitness Clubs in New York.

My approach to training draws upon the most up-to-date research in the fields of sports and fitness to attain maximum results for my clients. I am an NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Sports Performance Enhancement Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer, TRX Highest Rank Black & Yellow Coach, Spinning Star Level 3 Lifetime Instructor, Watt Bike Certified Instructor and Certified Power Plate Trainer.

I am interested in movement patterns in sports to achieve optimal performance and injury prevention as well as in daily life movement and quality improvement; I am a FMS Certified Exercise Specialist Level 1 and Level 2 and a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist.

I love helping clients achieve their goals but to reach that at 100%, we cannot neglect an important aspect which is nutrition. Whether the goal is to lose weight, to gain lean muscle mass, to achieve optimal performance in training or an event such as a marathon or triathlon, nutrition is key-  together with a realistic, efficient and structured training programme. For women who are going through the phases of perimenopause and menopause, there is even more uncertainty and confusion as to how to train and how to eat.

I don’t believe in a one size fits all programme, we are all unique- we have different energy requirements, metabolism, and personal relationships to food and exercise. I am a Certified Nutrition Coach and when I work with my clients, I combine my knowledge from both fitness and nutrition to help people reach their goals.
